First up, found in the music player directly above this text, I'd like to present a playlist of different peices of music produced & written by myself, that have been used in various media works. Some of the tracks were externally chosen for use, others were speficially written for media works as original score. please scroll to the bottom of teh playlist for the latest peices. Have a brouse & enjoy.

Sound Editing + Design for Independent Film

This is a video presenting 2 case study examples of how & why quality sound editing and sound design is a highly valued part of the film making process (which is overlooked more often than not), demonstrating the effect that it can have on scenes, and overall importance of sound in context to the big picture of making media. 2 scenes from the short film "The Hunter" by Alastair Ferran (www.alastairferran.com) are presented in an unedited form, then have they're faults broken down, & the approach that was taken to process each scene brushing over the various techniques used. Finally each scene is then played back again with finished edited audio track, allowing direct comparison from the materials available, & the end result. I hope this video is able to demonstrate clearly the need smaller productions to must place on quality location recording, & sound post production. Enjoy.

Hand Island - Episode 4: Prison Break...Out from Ash Parker on Vimeo

For Hand Island Episode 4, (directed by Ash Parker & Written by Alex Robinson) I was responsible for 80% of the location recording & boom operation, along with my assistant Jake Almond. All post production ADR, foley, sound design, editing & mixing was done by myself at my REDroom Facility in Nuendo 4.3. I also wrote & produced all the score from the tittle sequence starting at 02:45 to the end (the opening "prision Break" score was wretten & produced by Jake Almond).

Hand Island - Episode 3 - ...and Fisted from Ash Parker on Vimeo

.

Hand Island Episode Three. My roles on this episode were pretty extensive audio wise. I was the primary recordist & boom operator on set (with Jake Almond as my assistant). all music was supervised by me, along with edits in the post phase. 7 peices of the score & soundtrack were either produced by myself, and also written. all sound editing was done by myself with extensive sound design generated for this particular episode (racing car instrumentation, toy car, sick, foley for sections of unusable audio in the woods, reverb and atosphere matching, with a few segments of ADR). lastly I mixed the episode down to a stereo format.

Hand Island- Episode 2- Fingered from Ash Parker on Vimeo.

Lead sound recordist & boom operator during filming (jake almond 2nd). I Provided a peice music for the episode (Map Music 5, found in the player above), produced the percussion swells, along with overall music supervision. My main roles on hand island Episode Two were Sound design, post dialogue foley (a few scenes required additional recordings & sync work), sound editing & final stereo mixdown.

Hand Island Episode 1- F%*cked HD from Ash Parker on Vimeo.

Hand Island Episode One. during the production of hand island Episode one, I was the Lead sound recordist and boom operator, taking care of all on set sound dutys (with jake almond as my 2nd boom operator). Once the episode was in post production, my dutys then shifted over to Music supvisor & lead score writer (along with jake almond), I wrote and produced 10 peices of music that feautred in the episode (all can be heard in the music player above). I also did the complete sound edit, all sound design for the show, & finally mixed the episode down to stereo ready for video sync & final release.

Featurette Performence

Stoltz - Dance Planes Featurette. A track from the Featurette performences of stoltz. Recorded and shot in a television studio in falmouth, the project was directed by Ash Parker with the multi camera footage edited by myself within Vegas. Pop over to the Featurette page of the stoltz.co.uk site for five other performences from this session.

Games Sound design & Score

The Online flash game "Comazone" features sound design & score by by myself. The game was developed by Oli Harris for Maniaxmedia. Please click on the games banner above to play.

Score - Sound Design - Sound Edit - Boom Op

"364 Days Later" is a short comedy peice, written, produced, filmed, edited, scored & completed within a 48 hour period, for the 48 hour film project competition. My role was on set boom operator & recordist, sound designer, sound editor, mix engineer, & writer of the complete score. as stated all these roles were taken on & completed within 48 hours.

9 Cameras - 1 Performence

Switcher - 9INES Series. was a special set of four studio performence recorded in my REDroom studio. they feature tracks played LIVE by myself and jake almond, with accompanying VJ visuals by Ash Parker. The Performence is captured through my unique "9INES" technique, utilizing 10 cameras and a VJ stream. All this footage is then sync'd to an audio recording of the performence, & then positioned into 9 segments placed over the screen. the effect is stunning & technically excellent. The project was produced, directed and edited by myself, with recordings made in Nuendo & the video editing done within Vegas. Please pop along to the 9INES Series page & enjoy the rest of the performences.

Trailer Editing + Sound scape Design & Score

Teaser Trailer for Episodes 4, 5, & 6 of Hand Island. I Edited the video & created the tittle graphic sequence at the end. Additional Footage was shot for the intro static and also macro's of the inside of a video machine. All sound scape Design & score for the trailer was written & produced by myself. The Trailer was done in homeage to the original 1979 trailer for Alien

Audio Commentry

As an ongoing follow on project for hand island, each episode has a no. of audio commentrys recorded featuring director, writters, cast and crew. As lead sound engineer for the series I direct and produce these audio commentrys. In the player above you will find the the sound & score commentry featuring myself, (location recorist, lead boom operator, music supervisor, score writer, sound designer & sound editor for the episode), jake almond (boom operator, score writer) and james witcomb (assistant boom & series producer). The audio commentry was recorded in my REDroom studio suite, using 3 capacitor mics through 3 focusrite preamp channels, recorded into Nuendo & mixed. The vocals are paned accross the stereo feild with side chain compression applied to the program material, ducking the sound of the episode up & down around the overlayed commentry.

Music Video

Warder, the Music video. This is a promotional video produced to launch the stoltz website and also gain air play (as promos do). The Video was written by myself and Alastair Ferran (Ferran Films), Directed by myself, Camera operated by Ash Parker, and Edited by Edward Howard (Visual Carnival). The Colour Effect was attained by working through the bulk of the video & applying vector paint to each frame, generating 2 layers of video which could then have different colour grading processing applied. The music track was written and produced by myself with co-production by Jake Almond.

Score - sound designer - Sound Editor

The Date. For this indipendent film, I wote & produced the original score (with 2 tracks used courtesy of jake almond) sound designed the feature, & also did the complete post production sound edit and stereo mix. Written & directed by alex shaida. Edited by Edward Howard

Animation

Here we have an Animation "Dont Take No Shit" from my Soap Art series. The peice was created using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, & Sony Vegas. The source material was drawn by hand on paper & scanned into photoshop, edited & cut up into individual layers. The peice was then imported into Affter Effects, with each seperate eliment animated using variable key frames on the composite parts. Finally the peice was brought into Sony Vegas for final grading & speed adjustment. The music is also a peice I wrote. Performed on the VSTi Pianoteq, & produced in Steinberg Nuendo.

Sound Designer - Sound Editor

The End Of The Pier Show, a short made as a festival showcase. I was responsible for the location sound (stereo feild recordings using portable Zoom H4 recorder, & Lavalier microphones on the actors). Post production sound designer & editor. applying foley on various eliments from water, the beach, feet slaping on the gound & any noticable sound omiting from body language from the actors.
